The Insanity of Edward

I n the land of Necromium once lived a great blacksmith named Edward. A skilled craftsman, Edward could do it all from leatherwork to armor mending. With the great cataclysm all of Edward's wares were destroyed, so he soon set to remaking what was lost. His shop was soon filled with simple wares that were in great demand as the people of the world worked to rearm themselves and rebuild what was lost.

One night Zari appeared to Edward in a dream. She entered his shop and presented him with a great cache of Necromium ore. Looking him in the eyes she revealed to him all the secrets of transmuting Necromium, knowledge that no mortal had ever had before. The vast cosmic knowledge was too much for Edward, even though the visit was in a dream, and when he awoke his mind was filled with madness.

The day after this great dream, Edward stumbled to his shop and found all of his simple wares had been transformed into great weapons from legend. In addition, he knew how to make more of these weapons if only he had some Necromium to work with. Going to his desk to open the shop for the day he found a small pouch. With the pouch was a single piece of Necromium ore. Raising his hands to the sky the last of Edward's sanity left him and he shouted to the sky that never again would he be undersold.

For the next few years he created great weapons with the little Necromium he had. His insanity prevented him from stabilizing the metal so the weapons and armor he made would not last more than a few days. However, the peoples of the world did not mind as his prices were incredibly cheap. A sword from "Crazy Eddies" was often cheaper than a loaf of bread, and with these short lived items the humans were able to regain control of the world. Then one day Zari returned and took Edward away to make various items for the gods, and he was never seen among mortals again.

Return to the Second Age of Man.
